This is a Neurodiversity-Inclusive Space: Welcoming Images/Posters
A week ago, I was sitting in a doctor’s office and saw a sign on the wall that said something like “This is a Weight-Neutral Zone”. The sign went on to list a few specific examples of what that meant and how patients could expect to be treated in the office.
I thought the concept was neat. As someone who is happiest when constantly stimming, I thought of how comforting it would be to walk into a doctor’s office (or any location, really!) and see a sign that says “you don’t have to make eye contact and you can rock back and forth as much as you want.”
Below is my attempt to make images that convey a general sense of inclusiveness related to neurodiversity. The signs are currently relatively focused on autism and sensory processing, but we welcome any feedback on ways to reframe them to express neurodiversity inclusion more broadly.
and here is an attempt at a plain-language variation.
